Our Service

     ~~~is a blended service---that is, our music is traditional hymns combined with more contemporary music and praise choruses.  Accompaniment is by organ/piano and occasionally guitar.  The 8:30 worship is more informal and lasts about 45-50 minutes.  The 10:30 service is a more traditional service and typically lasts about 75 minutes.  It also may incorporate drama.
    ~~~ is built around scripture, preaching, sacrament, and the faith community–the ways Jesus Christ is present among us when we gather for worship.   Scripture is central to our services, including lessons from The Bible, as well as the hymns and anthems, many of which are also interpretations of biblical texts. The order of worship is called a liturgy, a compound of two Greek words–laos and ergon– which quite literally means "work of the people." What we do together in prayer and praise, listening for and responding to God, proclaiming and confessing our faith, and engaging in forms of self-offering during this time of worship, is our work in this service. This is service in a twofold sense: as we serve God in this liturgy, God also serves us–speaking to us with words of comfort, challenge and encouragement, and strengthening us to continue our work as Christ’s people in the world. Our work is strengthened by your presence as you join us in this service.

    ~~~As Disciples of Christ we take communion every Sunday.  Our Elders (men and women) preside at the table and the diaconate, including our junior diaconate members (high school students) serve the congregation.  We observe open communion.  If you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the Living God and is your Lord and Savior, then Jesus welcomes you at the Table.
    ~~~Upon finding your place in the sanctuary, we invite you to briefly greet those near you, and then begin preparing yourself for the service
